Snehapanam Treatment center in Trivandrum

What is Snehapanam?

Snehapanam is an internal oleation therapy in Ayurveda where the patient is given a prescribed quantity of medicated ghee or oil to drink, as part of the preparatory phase in Panchakarma detoxification. The term is derived from “Sneha” (fat or unctuous substance) and “Pana” (oral intake). This treatment prepares the body for deeper cleansing by loosening toxins from the tissues and channeling them towards the digestive tract for elimination. Snehapanam is also used as a standalone therapy for treating various chronic and degenerative conditions.

What are the indications?

Snehapanam is recommended for:

  • Preparing the body for Panchakarma (especially Vamana and Virechana)
  • Chronic skin diseases like psoriasis and eczema
  • Arthritis and autoimmune disorders
  • Digestive disorders including IBS and chronic acidity
  • Hormonal imbalance and menstrual irregularities
  • Neurological issues and nerve weakness
  • High cholesterol and lipid imbalances
  • General detox and tissue nourishment

What is the Treatment Procedure?

  • After a detailed consultation, a specific medicated ghee or oil (like Mahatikthaka Ghritam, Triphala Ghritam, or Sukumara Ghritam) is selected based on the patient’s condition.
  • The patient is instructed to consume the ghee on an empty stomach in increasing doses over 3 to 7 days, under close supervision.
  • Light, warm, and easily digestible food is consumed throughout the course.
  • Physical activity, mental exertion, and exposure to cold are strictly avoided during this period.
  • Once the body shows signs of complete oleation (samyak snigdha lakshanas), the main Panchakarma procedure is initiated.

What are the Benefits of the Treatment?

  • Dislodges deep-seated toxins from the tissues (dhatus)
