What is Karnapooranam?

Karnapooranam is a traditional Ayurvedic ear therapy that involves gently filling the ears with warm medicated oil or herbal extracts for a specific duration. The term comes from “Karna” (ear) and “Pooranam” (filling). This therapy is designed to cleanse the ears, remove toxins, relieve ear-related issues, and maintain auditory health. It is also beneficial for balancing Vata dosha in the head and neck region, making it a preventive and curative therapy for various ear and jaw disorders.

  • The oil is retained for a few minutes while the opposite ear is covered.
  • The head and ear are gently massaged to aid absorption and drainage.
  • After the session, the oil is drained and the ear is cleaned using soft cotton or herbal fumigation.
  • The process is repeated for the other ear.
